The Cape Fear region has long been one of the most desirable places to live on the Carolina coast—where historic charm meets modern living, and waterfront beauty blends seamlessly with vibrant neighborhoods. At the heart of that story are the realtors who make it possible, guiding newcomers and locals alike through one of the most important decisions of their lives: finding the perfect home.
In this special feature, we spotlight some of the region's most dedicated and dynamic realtors—professionals who know Wilmington and the surrounding communities inside and out, and who bring a personal passion for helping others to every step of the process.
Allow us to introduce Emmeline Yennaco, whose passion for design, history, and community is evident in her approach to real estate. From her early fascination with architecture to her commitment to making clients feel supported and understood, she embodies what makes Wilmington's real estate scene so special.

How did you got into real estate?
Getting into real estate was never a question in my mind. I've always had a deep interest in homes, design, and creativity. From a young age, I was fascinated by how architecture could tell a story and shape our lives. That curiosity grew into a passion for helping others find their dream homes. I wanted to combine my love for history and design with a career that allowed me to make a real difference in people's lives. Real estate became the perfect fit. I love working alongside clients to bring their visions to life, whether it's finding their first home or their forever home.
What do you think sets you apart from other agents in the Wilmington area?
I believe I can connect with people on a personal level. I always take the time to listen to my clients' wants and needs, so I can better understand their vision and help them find the perfect property. I'm a strong advocate for my clients, always striving to secure the best possible deal for them. Whether it's answering questions, addressing concerns, or providing guidance, I ensure that communication is clear and timely. I want my clients to feel heard and supported throughout the entire process.
What neighbourhoods are currently seeing the most interest in?
There are a couple of standout neighborhoods that are currently drawing a lot of attention. First is Preservation Point, a beautiful riverside community that offers access to walking trails, a pool, a clubhouse, and boat slips are still available. It's a great choice for anyone who loves the outdoors and wants to live by the water. Another hot spot is River Lights. This vibrant, riverfront community offers a wide range of amenities, including walking trails, boardwalks, a pool, a clubhouse, and numerous dining and shopping options. The variety of home styles in River Lights also means there's something for everyone, whether you're looking for a cozy cottage or a larger family home.
What advice would you give someone looking to buy in Wilmington for the first time?
First and foremost, take your time and think things through. It's essential to consult with a lender early to gain clarity on your budget and financing options. Once you have that, make sure to tour as many homes as possible within your price range. Doing your due diligence is key—North Carolina is a "buyer beware" state, so it's crucial to ask the right questions and understand all the details of the properties you're considering. I'm here to guide you through the process, so don't hesitate to lean on me for support throughout your home search. I am on your team.
What do readers not know about you?
Many people might not know that I'm originally from a small beach town in Massachusetts and made the move to Wilmington about six years ago. It was a big change, but it's been an exciting journey! I was raised by my single mother, who worked incredibly hard to keep my brother and me happy and healthy. She showed so much strength and resilience, shaping me into who I am today. I am the first on my mother's side to be born in America; most of my family is from Denmark and still lives there. I began playing golf three years ago, and it has become a big passion of mine. I always make time to enjoy outdoor activities, especially when they allow me to connect with nature.
When you're not selling real estate, where do you like to go to relax?
When I'm not working, I enjoy spending time outdoors to unwind. I'm a big fan of playing a round of golf, and when the weather's nice, you'll often find me at the beach or out on the water. I also enjoy exploring Wilmington's trails, which are a great way to stay active and enjoy the local beauty. When I need a pick-me-up, I head over to Social Coffee—it's my go-to coffee shop. For a great meal, I love Origins in Autumn Hall—it's my favorite restaurant in town. And if I'm at home, I'm likely in the kitchen cooking up something delicious. It's a great way for me to relax, unwind, and put my creativity into something else after a busy day.
